OPEN SOURCE · MACOS · LOCAL CLI
Keep your agent’s notes beside your work.
Agent Gibbon is an open-source floating Markdown note app for macOS. AI agents and shell scripts can create and update notes through a local command-line interface (CLI), keeping checklists and progress visible while you work in another app.
Free under the MIT license. Downloads are available for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Apple distribution signing and notarization are not configured; macOS may block a downloaded build.
When would I use it?
- AI coding progress: let an agent update a checklist beside your editor without taking keyboard focus.
- Research notes: keep a short summary visible while reading other windows.
- Several parallel tasks: use a separate note ID and color for each task.
How it works
Your agent calls the local CLI. The Tauri desktop app displays Markdown in floating windows. The app does not provide an AI chat model, an account, or cloud sync. Your agent needs permission to execute local commands.
"/Applications/Agent Gibbon.app/Contents/MacOS/agent-gibbon" open \
--id work --markdown '# Current task'
"/Applications/Agent Gibbon.app/Contents/MacOS/agent-gibbon" update \
--id work --markdown 'Review complete.'
"/Applications/Agent Gibbon.app/Contents/MacOS/agent-gibbon" close --id workopen creates or shows a note, update changes it, and close hides it. Updates preserve focus and do not reopen hidden notes. The CLI returns JSON so an agent can check success.
Install and connect your agent
- Download the DMG matching your Mac from GitHub Releases and move Agent Gibbon to Applications.
- Use the full executable path above from your terminal or agent.
- Give your agent the CLI skill instructions, or explain which note ID to create and update.
Sample instruction: “Use Agent Gibbon to keep a checklist in note ID work. Update it when a step finishes. Do not reopen a note I have hidden.”
Privacy and version details
Notes are stored locally. Official distribution builds can send app error diagnostics through Sentry. On current main, development and test builds, and builds without the embedded production DSN, do not enable Sentry. Previously published binaries keep the behavior of their release; see the source documentation and release notes.
The source repository may contain features newer than the latest downloadable release. Windows and Linux are not currently documented as supported distribution platforms.
